NCR Club Launch - Oktoberfest Day 1 2014

Launch Summary

Regularly scheduled club launch on steroids.  Huge thanks to Mike Shinn for towing out the equipment trailer and sticking around in the wind to get most of the range set up.  Great to see Doug Gerrard set up as well and the surprising number of folks that showed up Thursday afternoon to get settled in for a long weekend.  Truly a pity the wind didn't cooperate with the clear skies and warm temps during the days.  Art Hoag led the way with five flights, chased by Tim Thomas with four.  Otherwise, a total of 17 fliers put up 35 flights on Friday - 19 Class One and 16 Class Two.  Lots of walking involved for every recovery. Notable flights should include Carbon Footprint on the l265 that burned forever going up and away.  Eventually recovered and returned to Mark Lionberger.  Flights are listed in a random order and motor usage breaks down as follows. A's=1, B's=2, C's=2, No D's or E's, 2 F's, G's=12, H's=6, I's=4, J's=4.No K's, and 2 L's/  Staged or clustered flights are credited to the largest motor flown.

Weather Conditions

Wow, what should have been!  Skies were crystal clear, temps warmed nicely to the high sixties and while the wind shifted directions all day, constant 10 to 15 mph were the norm, with gusts to probably 22 or so.  Waiver ran from 9:30 AM to 5:00 PM, with two windows approved but only one used.  Ground winds and winds aloft were at odds with each other.  Skies remained clear enough to watch satellites and bright stars although the wind prevented a warming campfire.
