Atlas Site - Pawnee National Grasslands
Saturday January 5th, 2013
Launch Summary
Regularly scheduled club launch. Thanks to Jack Matthews for towing both ways and to everyone that showed up believing the cold, snow on the ground and the windchill would not be a factor.
Great to be outdoors and able to stand around chatting and pretending the wind would eventually die. Only one flight card sumitted byMark Stumbaugh for First Flight of 2013. David Pinter also launched his Venus Probe, twice. Not a total waste of the morning as three members took and passed their L2 written tests. Looking forward to their flights - Jack Matthews, Marlon Holmquist and Ross Kimbel.
Weather Conditions
On what should have been a great day to fly - clear skies, bright sunshine, and a great potential for temperatures warming up - the bitter chilled wind from the NNW never settled down enough to even consider opening the trailer and unloading equipment. Wind that was supposed to be 6 to 10 mph was measured between 20 and 25, with gusts in the high twneties. Waiver was scheduled from 10 AM to 3 PM. Called in the scrub at noon.
