Pawnee Grasslands - North Site
Saturday June 18th, 2005
Launch Summary
Most notable flights for this launch - Michael Geck successfully certified Level 1, flying his Purple Crayola Crayon on an H123; John Smolley and D. Giachino both certified Level 2; John Wilke set the mark to beat in the Single Shot Sweepstakes with an impressive 8,606' while adding yet another 20,777' in his Race to Space total. Dale Netherton will have to continue his quest for re-certification as Frankenrock separated at the stitches - all parts were recovered but it was a long walk back to the morgue. Thanks to Brock Bayes for meeting Jon Skuba at the highway in Fort Collins so we could tow the trailer out and back from the range.
Weather Conditions
Ground fog and low clouds burned off by 9am and the prairie rapidly warmed to the low 90's. A light ground breeze kept the heat from overwhelming the 18 flyers and a few spectators. The sky remained clear for most of the day, with the winds gently increasing from the southeast as the hours passed.
