NCR Club Launch - March 2009

Launch Summary

Regularly scheduled club launch.  Thanks again to Ken Reilly for towing our equipment trailer out and back.  Thanks to Mike Shinn and Jon Skuba for assistance in setting and packing away the range.  18 flyers put up 51 flights.  Jon Skuba was first off the pads with his Space Ship One - the first of his nine flights for the day.  John Wilke had seven flights, stumbling hard in the start of the Alphabet before completing flights thru E.  The Up With the Alphabet contest had three more entrants.  Other notable flights have to include Hair of the Dog to 6736' by Scott Evans, a new club D12 record by Greg Mackey (2002'), Mike Shinn's Nebulon Warrior, Mike Konshack's Gates of Heaven and Natalie Given's drag race of Killer and Zesty Zebra.  Flights are listed in a random order.  Motor usage breaks down as follows, with staged and clusters credited to the largest motor flown.  1/4 A's=1, 1/2 A's=2, A's=6, B's=9, C's=7, D's=11, E's=3, F's=2, G's=3, H's=1, I's=2, J's=3 and K's=1.

Weather Conditions

March weather is what it was.  Go figure.  All of the preceeding week had been incredibly warm and filled with sun. For Saturday, mostly cloudy skies kept temperatures from climbing out of the thirties but also kept the winds aloft from being a problem.  By noon, as the clouds began to break and lift, winds picked up and by 2:30 PM we were about done for the day. And as I post this report on Sunday morning, the sun is back and temperatures are expected back into the fifties and low sixties later in the week.
