Launch Summary
The day opened on a somber note when news of the Space Shuttle Columbia (STS-107) tragic break-up over central Texas arriving just as we began to setup. Everyone kept their ears tuned to the radio throughout the day for any late breaking information. Our thoughts and prayers were on the astranauts, their families, and the people at NASA. This day's launch was marked the beginning of the Vern Estes Challenge with several competetors making some impressive first entries. Two certification flights logged with Greg Potts attempting Level 1 and Ken Shank attempting Level 2.
Weather Conditions
The day started with Winds aloft and breezes on the ground, but inverted mid-day to provide some blustery conditions around the pads... knocking some of the smaller rods over and causing some minor damage to rockets. Between gusts we managed to fly a few more rockets then ended early as the winds became steady at 20mph.
