NCR Club Launch - February 2008

Launch Summary

Regularly scheduled club launch.  Big thanks to Scott Evans for towing out and back.  It was really great to see so many people come out to fly or watch in the cold.  Range and waiver were opened by 9:15 and we ceased operations at 2:30.  12 flyers put up 28 flights.  Dennis Billings had the most activity for the day with seven flights while Jon Skuba and Jeremiah Johnson each put up three.  Notable flights include Patrick Furey's "Mars Lander", Jeremiah Johnson" "Talon 2", Tim Thomas' "Talon 3", the "Talon 4" flown by Steven Hendricks,  and the team effort for the flight of the "Gizmo".  Electronic issues prevented Mike Konshak's "Slipstick III" from taking flight.  Flights listed are in a random order as the launch cards have been shuffled and sorted a few times eliminating the correct sequence of events.  Motor usage breaks down as follows, with staged flights and clusters credited to the largest motor used.  A's=3, B's=2, C's=3, D's=2, E's=1, F's=5, G's=6, H's=0, I's=2 and J's=4.

Weather Conditions

Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow Saturday.  If no shadow is seen, legend says spring will come early.  Of course, Phil wasn't on the range with us but would have seen his shadow under the clear to partly cloudy skies.  High clouds kept the temperatures just above the predicted high of 32 degrees and calm winds early on gave way to gentle winds from the southwest.  As long as we were moving around, winter seemed to be forgotten.
