Northern Colorado Rocketry
2007-06-02 NCR Club Launch - Mayhem Resumes in June

North Site - Pawnee National Grasslands

Saturday June 2nd, 2007

Launch Summary

Regularly scheduled club launch with a healthy dose of Mayhem thrown in and the First Annual Pawnee Pioneer Open. Thanks to Ken, Nathan and Ryan Plattner for bringing out the equipment trailer on Friday afternoon and assisting in getting the range set for the weekend. Thanks also to Bob Messner, Mark Lionberger and Debi and Dennis Billings for range set up duties and equipment repair/clean up. And thanks to Doug Gerrard and Art Hoag for helping to establish the range safety parameters and layout. Set up was accomplished by late Friday afternoon and by then a large crowd had started to gather for a beautiful evening on the praiire. On Saturday, 71 different flyers put up a total of 228 flights during the waivered range hours of operation from 8 AM until 6 PM. An afternoon BarBQue and brief business meeting helped round out the day. Humomgous thanks to Dale and Patty Netherton for cooking up over 100 servings of chow and to everyone that contributed to the success of our Prairie Potluck. Congratulations go out to Douglas A. Gerecht, Brad Morse and Ricky McDonald for acheiving L1, Bdale Garbee for earning his L2 certification and John Nelson and Bruce Schaefer for nailing the L3 certification. If there were other acheivers, congratulations are definately in order only I didn't get your name or paperwork. Other notable flights should include Nadine Kinney's "Deal or No Deal" and Bret Packard's "Whammer" on K555 Skidmarks, Jon Skuba's 'Flash in the Can' ignition of clustered flights, Ron Dreasher's 7x upscaled Quark, John Wilke's altitude shots on a G55 and a J570, and the Battle of the Acrynyms Round One. Round Two flew on Sunday but that's a different story. It was really great to see Jim Amos back on the range and all of the rest of the other flyers that made Saturday special. Huge thanks to all the participants in the Pawnee Pioneer Open. Results will be posted elsewhere but all of your flights added to the fun and excitement of this launch weekend. Saturday's flights are listed in a random order as the flight cards have been shuffled and sorted a few times thereby eliminating the correct sequence of flights launched. Motor usage breaks down as follows, with staged flights and clusters credited to the largest motor used - A's=18, B's=19, C's=46, D's=26, E's=24, F's=17, G's=25, H's=20, I's16, J's=8, K's=3, L's=1 and M's=3.

Weather Conditions

Saturday morning brought clear crisp Colorado blue skies and a gentle breeze that lasted all day. Temperatures climbed to the high 70's. Visibility was beyond ten miles and the cloud ceiling was non-existant for most of the day. Apart from the constant breeze, peaking at 14 mph, Saturday was a perfect day for launching rockets.
