Octoberfest was a blast, but my 18mm RMS scratch rocket “Thorn” was caught in thermals for more than 10 minutes. I saw it land (binoculars) past a fence to the northeast of the (North Site) lauch area. I think it was the fence that runs east/west, but there’s a slight change it was the fence that runs north/south. It was definitely a long distance east of where the fence meets the road. Pretty sure it’s past the fence, but maybe not more than 75 yards past.
Losing the rocket is not a big deal, but it had my 18mm RMS case (Aerotech brand) and a nice piece of nomex chute protector. I’ll donate the nomex to the finder as a reward for the rocket and casing.
Picture enclosed.
Thanks!

Geof, while walking onto private land is theoretically an issue, we have never been dinged for crossing fence lines. Almost 100% of the land adjacent to the launch site is also BLM land. Feel free to cross fences and walk after any bird you need to chase.
It was great to see your gliders again at this launch. You truly have a touch with them and they are definitely a marvel to most of us – even the guys flying M’s and N’s… You’re a very talented builder.

Thanks for your kind words, Warren.
I spent nearly an hour out past the fence looking for it without any luck. I’m not one to hesitate at the sight of a little barbed wire! Somebody’s big HPR bird came down in the same vicinity between 2:00 and 2:30. My little rocket should have drifted to very much the same area.

We are Good to Go with our scheduled and approved launch on Saturday April 5th and Sunday April 6th, from the North Site, subject to change – Mostly cloudy and High Winds predicted. Range and waiver should be active by 9AM on Saturday. The Pawnee National Grassland remains fragile and dry, so extra precautions are in order. Please stay on the authorized roads and please don’t park more than 100’ off the road at the flight line.
