I am thinking of using Centricast CL-1520 or CL-2030 Fiberglass pipe for the Body Tube of my Level three project. The tube thicknesses are .18 inches for the CL-1520 and .220 inches for the CL-2030.
I contacted Wedge Oldham that was in charge of the construction on the Black Brant rocket, but he did not give me specifics on the tube manufacturer or wall thickness. The photos on the Black Brant site look like they are around .375 Inch thick ( just a guess ).
I do not intend on anything as HUGE as the Black Brant, but something around 18 feet with a suitable “stable” diameter.
Any suggestions or information would be appreciated.
It would seem that the Sonatube and fiberglass system would be quite heavy also.
Thanks :o)
If the tubing is FWFG, it WILL be heavier than Sonotube and an appropriate number of wraps of glass fabric. Convolute wound glass tubing will be lighter for an appropriate strength.
