I’m building a 7.5″ upscale Big Daddy for Octoberfest. My question is will 1/4″ ply with or without fiberglass be OK for the the fins. The other option are GLR composite board, G10, or something you guys tell me about.
To give you an idea of what it will be launched on I’m planning some combination of a J with airstarting 2 H’s or I’s, or a K with 2 airstart H’s, I’s or J’s.

I’d go 1/4″ ply with 2 or 3 layers of 6oz. glass. That way you could do a 54mm motor mount and feel reasonably confident with K’s and L’s.

We are Good to Go with our scheduled and approved launch on Saturday April 5th and Sunday April 6th, from the North Site, subject to change – Mostly cloudy and High Winds predicted. Range and waiver should be active by 9AM on Saturday. The Pawnee National Grassland remains fragile and dry, so extra precautions are in order. Please stay on the authorized roads and please don’t park more than 100’ off the road at the flight line.
