OK, as the snow is still 4′ deep in Iowa (no kidding) and I am about to go stir crazy, I see that this upcoming Saturday is March 1. That can only mean MHM is just around the corner….
So… what are all the cool kids flying at MHM this year?

ParticipantI’ll be flying “Excess in Moderation” (LOC Fantom EXL) on probably an I300T with 6 F24W airstarts and DD. A bit “out there” for a L1 newbie. It should be cool whether successful or not. 😉
Other than that, I’m there to watch.

ModeratorWell let’s see – depending on the waiver of course, I have a bunch of stuff to fly.
– 54mm min diameter “Delicate Sound of Thunder” on an Ellis L330 – expected altitude 27500′ AGL.
– 38mm min diameter “Momentary Lapse of Reason II” on an AT J570 – expected altitude 17,500′ AGL.
– 4″ carbon/glass project “The Big O” on an AMW L1300BB – expected altitude 11K’ AGL.
– 54mm diameter bird, unnamed as yet, on AMW K550SK – expected altitude 13,500′ AGL.
– 5″ Level 3 project, “Lady ‘N Red”, on an AT M1419W – expected altitude 14800’ AGL.
– possible second flight of Lady N Red on a CTI M795 – expected altitude 19700′ AGL. (If I cert and the bird survives the cert flight.)
Pretty good list of stuff.

ParticipantSorry JW, it’s still too early to tell. Art and I are building a new rocket that we hope to fly at MHM but considering it’s still under construction… I hope to post some more information around April once we know it’s going to fly.
However, we still have a couple of N’s in the magazine that are burning holes in our pockets (figuratively of course). So I’m thinking about Freeze Frame (http://www.rocketryphotography.com/rockets/RocketsFreezeframe.html) on the N2800 and I believe Art wants to use the N4000. But no Drag race this time, only one casing 🙁

ModeratorThe Saturn Five is in the Vehicle Assembly Building for repairs but should be rolled on for another spectacular boost. And I hope to Drag Race Tim Thomas with the Doug Stout custom ARCAS on J380’s.

ParticipantI think I’ll be making some more altitude attempts:
F10 attempt #5
Ellis 24mm G attempt #1.
Maybe a 24mm E6I’ll also fly my Thunderbolt, assuming it survives this Saturday.

Adrian, I found 3X E12-10 Ellis loads 24mm. I will bring them this weekend

ParticipantI’m going to sit around and cry because I can’t be there.

Cool. Thanks for thinking of me on that. I’ll be sure to bring my checkbook. Looking at the motor cert info, the Apogee E6 has a shorter length, a little higher impulse, and has a longer burn time, so I think I’ll build around that one for the record attempts. With the Parrot and a beeline, I think I can build it light enough to work fine with the lower thrust. But the E12 would be nice to have under windier conditions, if it wouldn’t throw off the CG too much sticking out the back.
