I will be starting on the build of the PML Miranda soon. The questions I have are since I will be going for L1 and L2 certs I will be joining NCR and Tripoli. I am assuming I will be able to join NCR and TRA and do the L1 flight on the same day. Also I will be building the Miranda stock so it will handle the AT J90 or J180 without adding the foam around the MMT/fins. The kit came with 3/8″ launch lugs. I am looking and this thing should weight between 3.3lbs and just under 4lbs fully loaded. From what I am hearing is sounds like the lugs are a bad idea and I should switch it over for a rail launch. If this is correct I will have to go with guides and not buttons since the kit uses a piston to eject the chute. Also, when I go for the L1 attempt does anyone have any deals for the engine case/reload. Any help would be appreciatecd.

Launch lugs are fine. That rocket aint that heavy. If your worried about them coming off, do what I did.
I put a piece of 2 OZ glass over the lug, the cloth streches about an inch to each side. Then after that epoxy hardens (the 30 minute kind) put a big old fat fillet of epoxy down each side of the lug. Make sure you ruff up the surface before you do all that though. Then with some filler and sand paper you can blend the cloth into the rocket body.January 3, 2009 at 1:11 am #49735Mitch Smith
I am not sure if the glass will work, my kit has the Quantum Tubing which according to PML cannot be glassed. I am thinking some 1010 lugs along with devcon 2 ton epoxy for putting it on and fillets should hold. Anyone know if hobbytown carries lugs and other supplies to use?

ParticipantThe club usually has multiple rails set up, but usually only one of each of the larger rods. Rail will get you through the line quicker! 😀
Just put some Acme guides on with JB Weld and you’ll do fine. Rough it up good before bonding. Be sure to tape them securely in place while it’s setting up. Don’t ask me how I know this. 😳
Good luck on the project.

KeymasterI have quite a few rockets that use QT. I have great luck with standard lugs. Just rough up the tubing and lug with 80grit and use a good 30 minute epoxy and decent fillets. Make sure you really sand the G10 fiberglass fins and tubing before bonding.
Hobby town in Longmont has rail guides if you want them localy. There are many in the club that would loan you the motor hardware for your needs. I have AT hardware from 29–54mm that you could use and a cessaroni 38mm 5 grain too.
I myself dont like the chutes that come in kits. I would go to the next bigger size if you can. I would rather walk farther than take damage.

Thats what mine was and is. Besides how am I supose to repair a broken fin on a rocket that still has its launch lugs? Fiber glass! Ruff it up!
Later, Im off to the launch! Hope it still happens today. 🙂!

Already upgraded the chute… standard for it was a 36 and I upgraded to the 48″. I am starting to lean toward just using the stock lugs that came with it. No real hurry to get through the lines to launch.

Don’t know how you did, but go with Tim Thomas.
Just put some Acme guides on with JB Weld and you’ll do fine.
He has all you’ll ever need for ALL cert levels. Trust me on that. Tim got me through ALL THREE!
