ParticipantI will be back in action! Just heard Friday afternoon that an offer was on its way early this week.
I will be an application engineer at Vaisala in Louisville. I’ll be working on integrating remote weather monitoring with automated road & traffic controls for North America. Quite a shift from data storage, but everyone knows where that’s headed.
Just ordered my dog tracker today. WooHooo! Time to finish off this LOC Legacy and get to work on my Comp4 for my L2.
Ken 😀

Congratulations Ken.
Glad to see that the priorities are in the right order
1) Get job
2) Buy rocket partsSome times I mess this up. Perhaps I need to make a checklist.

Those guys used to fly with us. They had a weather sensor that they were flying. They had a zillion H125s (full “H”, 29mm). Alas, that motor is no longer certified….

I think I saw the prototype of the “rocket-sonde” while walking through the lab areas. It never made it to production, though. I think there are at least one L2 and one L3 working there. I should be in good company.
Ken
Also, it wasn’t me setting the priority of job, then rocket parts! 🙄

congrats Ken, thats great!
What’s happening to data storage that everyone but me knows about? I’m in Unix land, but i have a lotta friends that work for EMC, Storagetek, and Netapp.

ParticipantAt the device level (disk and tape drives), all the engineering is being pushed offshore, where all the manufacturing is right now.
Disk still has the edge over flash in the mainstream and high end, but flash only has a couple issues to fix and moving media would be dead.
The big integrators like emc, stk, netapp will roll with the changes, though stk -> sun-> IBM will probably lose the stk high end tape drives since their only competition is IBM. That will dump a bunch more Louisville engineering folk into the job market. I used to be in that department at STK.
Not a rosy long term picture for the component manufacturers.
