Not sure which forum this should go it; apologies if it’s in the wrong place!
I want to get my L2 now that I tested my Firestorm 54 on an I and it didn’t crash. I know I need to take the test, after that I believe all I have to do is show up at a launch w/my bird and a J or K motor and get a couple of guys to witness it (and do all the pre/post flight checks). Am I missing anything? Should I contact my witnesses in advance to be sure I’ve got enough folks there or can I rest assured I’ll be covered? Regarding the test, I understand I can only take it 1/month, and have to launch w/in 30 days of the test, so I need to be sure to take the test within 30 days of a launch date I can actually attend. I’m gonna miss the August launch; is the next launch Oktoberfest? If so can I get my cert there or is it just too crazy with all the activity?

If you’re talking NAR, you could be right, I can’t comment there. But if Tripoli, you can take the test a couple times in the same day if necessary – I did.

You shouldn’t have to contact any witnesses beforehand – I know there will be plenty of people (me included) willing to sign off on a L2 at just about any launch. As for the test stuff, I’m not sure. I took my L2 through TRA, so I’m not quite as familiar with NAR procedure.

I just completed my L2 cert at Mile High and it wasn’t too big of a deal to take the test the morning of the cert – Art Hoag was able to administer the test and still launch Odyssey so a big thanks to him. I would recommend maybe considering Tripoli as well since it gives you the option of launching on the Sunday research days – something that comes in nice for flexibility as well as possible weather related issues (mile high mayhem). Either nar or tra a book of all the potential questions with answers is available and I would recommend reading through them a couple times and you should be good to go for the test. Good luck! -Sean
