my dad lives 3 miles east of the Air Academy, and heard this…

big motor for fairly inexperienced zoomies if you ask me!
All I can think of is the dry grasses…. I wonder what kind of fire they had afterwords.
I knew I should have gone to the AFA, I cold have blown up rockets as part of schooling 😆
It looks like whatever they had ignite it blew right threw the forward closure. Nothing ever came out of the nozzle. If what they were prepping in the video was the igniter, I’d be scared 🙂

That igniter looked huge. I have to wonder if that is what caused the failure. Looking at the video, it doesn’t look like it overpressurized, since the forward closure blew before significant thrust.
Hell of a cato, that’s for sure.
We are Good to Go with our scheduled and approved launch on Saturday April 5th and Sunday April 6th, from the North Site, subject to change – Mostly cloudy and High Winds predicted. Range and waiver should be active by 9AM on Saturday. The Pawnee National Grassland remains fragile and dry, so extra precautions are in order. Please stay on the authorized roads and please don’t park more than 100’ off the road at the flight line.
