With the permission of the contest director (Joe Hinton) and the regional contest chair (Russ Anthony) , we are going to modify the events for the Pawnee regional scheduled for this weekend (May 1) because of inclement weather forcasted for the North Pawnee site. The winds will be too high (13-15mph with 20% chance of rain and low ceilings) on Saturday and on the backup day , Sunday, there is a 30% chance of snow. This is not conducive to tracking F SR’s
Consequently, we will be replacing F Super-roc Altitude (WF 19) with two events, B Streamer Duaration (WF 9) and Random Duration (WF 10). The later are two rockets that should be in everyone’s arsenal as we had just flown them at the last CRASH event and before. This will also allow a few additional entrants that otherwise did not prepare rockets for the other events, and keeps people from having to stand outside for long periods at the tracking stations.
We will still be doing Giant Sport scale, D Helicopter and 1/4A Boost Glider with the total WF=80.
PLEASE pass the word around your local clubs to let them know. HP rockets will still be launched on Saturday.
If we can not launch on Saturday (it will be called at 11:00 AM midday) the Pawnee Open will shift to coincide with Mile-Hi Mayhem on May 28, 29 (Friday and Saturday). The alternate is to double up at SCORE June 5.
Hints on competing in high winds: Launch a qualifying flight with a heavy rocket or small recovery device to get your rocket back, then follow up with your competition model, just in case it flies away. :o)
We are Good to Go with our scheduled and approved launch on Saturday April 5th and Sunday April 6th, from the North Site, subject to change – Mostly cloudy and High Winds predicted. Range and waiver should be active by 9AM on Saturday. The Pawnee National Grassland remains fragile and dry, so extra precautions are in order. Please stay on the authorized roads and please don’t park more than 100’ off the road at the flight line.
