All,
It looks like we might get a good weekend to launch.
Can anyone tow the trailer up on Saturday morning and bring it back Sunday? (or at least one the two)
Also, we need help in pushing the button.
Let me know if you can help. Thanks!
Ed

ModeratorI’m sorry 😯 I had already volunteered to tow both ways.
I will help with set-up and teardown.
The wife was wondering if there was to be a pot-a-pot?
thanks mike

Thanks Mike,
You voluneteered a while ago, and I forgot about that. It is so different from what usually happens!
No porta-pots, but perhaps someone will have a camper to offer.

I’ll gladly help with button pushing whenever I’m not launching. If the weather’s remotely decent, I’ll have an apogee deploy at 4k+ though, so I don’t know how long I’ll be out hiking. Whenever I do get back though, I’ll LCO for as long as needed.

ModeratorActually, YES, a Port-a Potty has been ordered up for the weekend. There have been several different groups expressing interest in attending, including Scouts from Littleton, TARC attempters from Wyoming, and student groups from Golden. With anticipating a larger than usual crowd for an April launch, it seemed the prudent thing to do.

Joe how we looking? got the email that the launch is on, but i see there is a red flag real close by, which i found while checking wind in Nunn…

Grover does not have same warning, not sure exactly where we fall on that map, its a little small. I think we are in zone 242 according to this map… http://www.nws.noaa.gov/mirs/public/prods/maps/state_firezone_colorado.htm
but we could be in 238 along with Nunn and “west Pawnee Grasslands”.
Don’t want to be a party pooper, but I also don’t want to drive 6 hours round trip for nothin!
Whats the word?

ModeratorCalled in the waiver this morning after speaking with Jon Halverson at the USFS. We are still GO but proceeding with caution and still subject to a possible cancelation based on the advisory postings from the National Weather Service, common sense and the reality of conditions on site. Current Red Flag advisory expires this evening, with a possibility of another tomorrow and another one on Saturday but the humidity is rising and the winds are abating so it is still looking like a cautious launch situation to me.
I liken it to downhill skiing or surfing – sometimes the snow or waves cooperate for a great day – sometimes they don’t – but you still got to get to the slopes or the beach to know for sure.April 1, 2011 at 4:08 am #54056bryans
Know if we are in zone 242 or 238?

ModeratorBoth zones are currently listed in a Fire Weather Advisory which is different than a Fire Watch or Red Flag situation although the distinctions are pretty slim in the grand scheme of things.
A Fire Weather Watch means that critical fire weather conditions
are possible. Please advise the appropriate officials and fire
crews in the field of this Fire Weather Watch. The bigger concern is the probable elevated winds predicted for the afternoon Saturday.
Alternatives to our launch include flying with Tripoli Colorado on Sunday April 10 up at Hartsel or flying with SCORE at the Hudson Ranch on Saturday the 2nd and 16th. Waivers aren’t quite as spacious but they are still great places to fly.

ParticipantThere’s a weather station pretty close to the North site with hourly data available at http://www.wunderground.com:
