Did any of the super wet snow we got down in Denver hit up in Pawnee? Hopefully it will mitigate some of the fire danger if it gets good and soaked in.
Actually, NO. The prairie got very little of the rainfall and the wind and sun has dried out more of the vegetation than the little bit of moisture has helped. When I spoke with Jon Halverson with the USFS today, we discussed the possibilities of our scheduled launch on the 14th and 15th. Concerns are very elevated. We’ll have a better appraisal of the possibility early next week. At this point, we are on a tenative go for launch but that’s subject to change right up until assessment on site.
Been said before, and I’ll say it again – time to do the Rain Dance in earnest. Our launch season may not be happening as planned.
Whitney has assured me that it will rain Wednesday and Thursday, so we should be good to go 🙂
Okay then – we’ll see you out there. Remind me please who is towing?
I am not able to do the towing, and I believe Mike Shinn will be at work that day and will not be able to tow. I hope that helps.
We need both Saturday and Sunday towing.
I cannot make it on Saturday but could drive up on Sunday to get the trailer if needed. (not sure how much flying I will get in)

I just bought a new towing-capable vehicle so I am once again on the list of options for the club. I still have to get the wiring harness and plug taken care of, but starting in May I should be able to contribute once again.
I can not tow….. sorry. Will be able to in May for sure.
I can definitely tow, at least on saturday for sure. Sunday if need be.
Thanks Ken!
Great to know Saturday is set. Between our tentatives on Sunday, we should be covered.
Hey all – feel free to sign up for some LCO duty if you have some time. It’s a blast!
We are Good to Go with our scheduled and approved launch on Saturday April 5th and Sunday April 6th, from the North Site, subject to change – Mostly cloudy and High Winds predicted. Range and waiver should be active by 9AM on Saturday. The Pawnee National Grassland remains fragile and dry, so extra precautions are in order. Please stay on the authorized roads and please don’t park more than 100’ off the road at the flight line.
