Should be a very sturdy bird. Isn’t that the same one Konshak used for his L3? I remember he had a bazillion build photos posted on his website, including some nice mounting work for the DC20 in the nose. Might be worth revisiting. Look forward to the finished product!

Looks pretty much like my L3, though perhaps a bit longer since I cut mine down length-wise to get more altitude. Mine was also a 5″ bird with a 98mm motor mount.

Really no idea on a launch date. I’m really trying to evaluate and understand each step in the process, so it takes awhile. I don’t want to just glue it together and fly it. I want to end up with a really well thought out and well built rocket. I’m enjoying the process, so not really in a hurry.
Yes it is the same base kit Mike Konshak used, and yes I did go through his build several times. Great resource.
I’ll leave mine tall. I like the size. I thought about optimizing for altitude but the truth is for me if I want altitude I’ll use something smaller and minimum diameter. The cost of a big engine for a 5″ rocket is just out of my league. If I want to break 20K I’ll do it on my Kestrel for way less money. Worrying about altitude potential on a non-MD bird just doesn’t make sense to me. On the other hand, sticking an N1000 in it would be awesome, but it just not something I could ever afford to do. If I ever got to fly something like that, it would more than justify a dedicated build.
