ParticipantIt’s still pretty far out, but the forecast so far looks good for Friday morning and all of Monday. In between it looks pretty windy. No sign of a big rain-out like last year. I’m sure this will change a couple times before then, but sometimes it’s fun to shake up the magic 8 ball and see what it says.

ModeratorFriday: A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms. Partly sunny and breezy, with a high near 73.
Friday Night: A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy and breezy, with a low around 51.
Saturday: A slight chance of showers. Mostly sunny and breezy, with a high near 81.
Saturday Night: Partly cloudy and breezy, with a low around 52.
Sunday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 78.
Now if we only knew what ‘breezy’ was going to be.
‘Breezy’ in Wyoming is 50 MPH.
‘Breezy’ in Colorado is some what less.

ParticipantHere’s a good upper level wind forecast site. The forecast for Friday is for a 150 mph jet stream to be centered over the launch site. Hopefully it will move off after that.

ParticipantHow far down does the jet stream dip?
I’m trying to launch something that may hit 20 K.

ParticipantThe site, above, lets you scroll through both altitude and time. On Friday you’re looking at 60 knots (70 mph) at 18,000 feet.

ModeratorForecast looks better every day – finally a Green Light – more like a proceed with caution really. Prairie is still very dry. Everyone is encouraged to bring extra water just in case we need to re-fill the extinguishers or wet down around and under the pad areas. Maybe the Virga rain will actually become gentle showers.

ParticipantNow all day Friday and Saturday afternoon are showing 15-20mph winds, but Sunday is o.k. at little under 10 mph and Monday looks better yet. No chance of precipitation other than a small chance of evening thunderstorms on Friday and Saturday nights.

OK .. we can stop the changing forecast there .. I like that calm Sunday for the Proton. Not sure we could handle a 20 mph wind …
