We have a GO for launch this Saturday, March 2nd, from the Atlas Site. This launch will be for commercial motors only. Expect the range and waiver (12,000’ AGL) to be operational by 9 AM. An important reminder – in spite of the recent moisture, the Fire Risk remains high – extra vigilance will be expected.
Please note that the launching of rockets on NFS land is normally prohibited under a Forest Service Region 2 fire regulation. The issuance of NCR’s permit allows launches to take place for approved launch events only. All launches, other than those conducted during approved launch events, are prohibited by Forest Service regulations.
For those of you that drive a long ways to attend our launch, please check with your favorite weather forecast before leaving home. The current forecast calls for clear to partly cloudy skies, with temperatures in the low to mid forties, but the probability of strong winds from the WNW exists.
As always, volunteers are needed to help with range set up, operation and clean up. Special thanks to Bear for already volunteering to tow.

FWIW, I plan on pulling the trailer on Saturday. I expect to be at the Atlas site by 8:30 so we will be ready to go at 9AM. Weather is suppose to be good with temps in the 50’s for a high.

Sounds as if a group of students from the School of Mines are planning on visiting and flying a few projects. Apparently, they also need to do some community service or something so they’ll help with set up or tear down or flight ops for the day.

And we might get a visit from the Broomfield Civil Air Patrol squadron. They are touring the Missile Silo in Greeley and planning on visiting our launch sometime afternoon. Hopefully the W stuff – that’s weather vernacular for air flow – won’t materialize until very late in the day.

School of Mines Rocket club has changed plans and will attend the April launch at the North Site. Civil Air Patrol is still planning to attend.

We missed you at the launch today Joe, but we managed to muddle along. Great weather, sunshine, a bit of wind (not too much), and good skies for visual tracking of rockets. A few memorable flights, including one K motor (Baby on Board) and a J to J two stager.
Bear and I made some progress on the Alphabet contest.

My 4th E in the Alphabet did a really great CATO. It just got off the pad when it blew out both ends, removed the motor mount, fractured the fin mounts and started a little grass fire from grass growing out of cracks in the asphalt.
The chute came out, the rocket landed, but it is a hollow tube now. Bummer. I guess I can pay my $5 and continue on with the “E’s”, or is this procedure incorrect.
