Monday, September 5th, 2016
Just in case you were wondering, fire conditions remain elevated and too dangerous for our planned September launch (September 10th and 11th) at the North Site on the Pawnee National Grassland, and possibly for the remainder of the year. Consider the current conditions of the vegetation on the prairie, the forecast for more hot and dry windy days and the low humidity factor. NO GO FOR Sept. 10 and 11. Red Flag Watches and Warnings have already developed. A RED FLAG WARNING MEANS THAT CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS ARE EITHER OCCURRING NOW….OR WILL SHORTLY. A COMBINATION OF STRONG WINDS…LOW RELATIVE HUMIDITY…AND WARM TEMPERATURES CAN CONTRIBUTE TO EXTREME FIRE BEHAVIOR.
Launch opportunities are still on schedule with SCORE, at the Hudson Ranch on Saturday, September 17th and Saturday, October 1. Or make plans now to attend the Tripoli Las Vegas Oktoberfest, October 14th thru 16th, on the Jean Dry Lake Bed. http://www.tripolivegas.com/
We are Good to Go with our scheduled and approved launch on Saturday April 5th and Sunday April 6th, from the North Site, subject to change – Mostly cloudy and High Winds predicted. Range and waiver should be active by 9AM on Saturday. The Pawnee National Grassland remains fragile and dry, so extra precautions are in order. Please stay on the authorized roads and please don’t park more than 100’ off the road at the flight line.
