In case you had any doubts or were still wondering, High Skies in July has been cancelled.
This will be a long, dry summer. The Arapaho and Roosevelt National Forests and Pawnee National Grassland are currently under Stage 1 fire restrictions, until rescinded. Please note, this could last throughout the summer if needed.
The Executive Board of NCR has been looking for our opportunity to get back to launching rockets while complying with all applicable state, local public health orders and Forest Service Fire restrictions. As it stands right now, there is not a way to comply. Additionally, given the resurgence of COVID-19 and the unknown impacts on a large launch like High Skies, NCR and the USFS know this is the correct decision. The health and well-being of rocketry participants, spectators, and staff is our top priority.
Please understand that the NCR Board is looking for other ways to get back to launching. We’re all itching to fly the projects we’ve been working on. Many of us are going stir crazy cooped up at home. NCR’s primary obligation must be the safety, health and welfare of its members and the people who attend our events. Before we know it we’ll be punching holes in the sky again.
Celebrate the 4th of July responsibly.
Please stay safe everyone.
Jeffrey JOE Hinton
NCR President
As much as I miss flying and visiting the Grasslands – it’s the right thing to do – or not do as the case may be – at this time.
We are Good to Go with our scheduled and approved launch on Saturday April 5th and Sunday April 6th, from the North Site, subject to change – Mostly cloudy and High Winds predicted. Range and waiver should be active by 9AM on Saturday. The Pawnee National Grassland remains fragile and dry, so extra precautions are in order. Please stay on the authorized roads and please don’t park more than 100’ off the road at the flight line.
