I’m starting to design my first 2 stage rocket – 83mm Hybrid to 83mm Hybrid. I’m going to use 98mm tubing for the airframe and hope to just use 48″ lengths. I was seeking opinions on my staging/coupler connection. Right now it is simply a machined piece of aluminum that acts as a coupler/retainer for the motor.

Ed, it looks right you have about 1-1/2 diameters of insertion. What’s your strategy on how to light the sustainer? I know nothing about hybrids so maybe I’m an idiot for asking.
Here’s the drawing of my 2 stage “the Twins”.

The motor retainer was small enough to fit through a standard coupler which was attached to the booster. You only have 7.5mm difference between the motor and airframe diameters so that is a tight setup.
We are Good to Go with our scheduled and approved launch on Saturday April 5th and Sunday April 6th, from the North Site, subject to change – Mostly cloudy and High Winds predicted. Range and waiver should be active by 9AM on Saturday. The Pawnee National Grassland remains fragile and dry, so extra precautions are in order. Please stay on the authorized roads and please don’t park more than 100’ off the road at the flight line.
