ModeratorThe meeting went great. My first. I in the past always had to work.
Had to leave early but all were in great moods and well fed.
Great food, Great people, Great news, Great presentation’s.
Just a few pics. The V2 had to be seen in person to see the
great job done.January 10, 2010 at 4:14 am #51882djsroc
KeymasterI didnt get to make it. Was anything said about the upscale contest?
January 10, 2010 at 6:36 am #51883Chad
No upscale contest this year. I believe NAR is holding one this year.
We have the Alphabet (with a bigger prize pot- thanks Wilke). Only difference is you have to build every rocket yourself.
We have the Level 0 and Level 1 Triple Shot, where you try to get the greatest cumulative altitude for a D, E, F or G, H, I motor respectively. Same rocket for each of the three in sequence.
We have the Reach for 2010′ altitude contest, where you use any rocket and motor to get as close to 2010′ without going over (similar to the Icarus).
The last idea is still being worked out- using an accelerometer enabled altimeter, get as fast as you can without shredding on a single motor- proposed to be the AT I-600.

Where are the rules for these contests? I can’t seem to find them.

I think the rules will be posted shortly, at least before the planned February launch. Give our core volunteers a chance to catch their breath after the meeting and all the work they’ve been doing lately.

ParticipantThe V2 was amazing.
I’m looking forward to the contests too. Pretty fun ones coming up….

ParticipantSo what’s the current word from USFS on access? Is it a done deal w/the permit or are there still issues to work through? Sorry I couldn’t be there 🙁

Done deal, we are good to go. Joe has the rules to live by and I believe will be posting them here somewhere…. One thing I did really pick up on is that we will have to report ALL fires – specifically pad fires, no matter how small. So, I suspect that will be a main focus for the North site now.

ModeratorActually, the final draft of the permit has yet to be craved in stone. NCR’s operating plan has been a guiding document of sorts – we have been beyond compliant in most aspects and I expect the “Permit” requirements will be straight forward and pretty easily managed.
Meeting minutes or notes should get posted here shortly otherwise I’ll try and do a brief re-telling.
And yes, the V-2 was a stunner. I was totally surprized and floored that Jon Skuba and John Wilke and Dale Netherton and Eric Parsons and Art Hoag had spent that much time and effort building my rocket which orginally was won as the grand raffle prize at Hellfire years, and I mean years, ago. It’s a Polecat Aerospace kit and Elvis even made a motor to fly it. Needs a few pounds of nose weight but is almost ready to buzz Nunn or Briggsdale – I haven’t decided on a target yet.
