I’m adding an e-bay to a rocket using a LOC e-bay kit. My question is it comes with some form of steel 1/4- 20 all thread that’s really pretty heavy, can I replace it with aluminum all thread? After I get it all together the weight may be mute after if I have to put more weight back in to balance out the CG to the right point.

Sure Ron, but you can also go with just smaller diameter all thread. You could try 6-32 or even 4-40 for an electronics bay.

Not sure how they’d compare in tensile strength, but aluminum threads can strip really easily. I didn’t even notice the weight of the rods in my LOC ebay. It kind of got lost in the mass of a 4″ rocket. The aluminum would probably hold in ideal conditions, but who among us hasn’t had the occasional “energetic” deployment, or early, or late. They take all the stress of the yank.

We are Good to Go with our scheduled and approved launch on Saturday April 5th and Sunday April 6th, from the North Site, subject to change – Mostly cloudy and High Winds predicted. Range and waiver should be active by 9AM on Saturday. The Pawnee National Grassland remains fragile and dry, so extra precautions are in order. Please stay on the authorized roads and please don’t park more than 100’ off the road at the flight line.
