8) Over at Hartsel last weekend , I had the chance to fly the New Aero K270 in my glass Vertical Assault. It went 11,344ft. Long nice burn with good power to start the rocket from the pad. My VA is pretty heavy, but it was no problem for this load. A perfect flight, landing a mile north. This motor might get WAY up there on a Min. dia. bird. Just a thought….K270/2560 case, $140.00 😀

If that’s an offer I’ll take one. I need that case anyway. Are you serious or am I missing something?

8) I have both the Load and case. The ‘Just a thought’ was for the min.dia. bird part. It just seems to me that if a person wanted to try for personal best, say 20,00 ft. This might be a great way to start down that road. For me, I am using a Firstorm 54 and the K270 with one of the trackers that are around. For not too much money, should get 3+ miles. Maybe 20K by Oktoberfest? The point being, with so many motor to choose from, the sharing of trackers, light strong airframes that are out there, it is a good time to go “high’. 8)

😳 The K270 which fits the 54/2560 case is 140.00. The case is extra 😳

ModeratorI’ve got the case I can loan if interested. Heck of a good deal in my eyes. And a transmitter to boot, if you’re in for the walk.

ParticipantI’m almost afraid to ask, but how much does a K250 cost? I’ve still got quite a few rockets to build and fly before then, but someday I might like to go for the K record.

Adrian, the current K250 is a shadow of it’s former self. The vintage K250s were a 100% K, the new ones are ~81%. Last I saw they were ~$275 + s/h + hazmat. In other words, an M from Tim is cheaper 😯
The Loki K350 is very (very!) long, and the hardware is quite heavy… large graphite nozzle, big honkin’ forward closure. I’m going to fly one later this year, but I don’t think it is the answer.
The market needs a full, long-burning K… Cesaroni worked on one for a long time, but it never made it to production.

ParticipantNow that Aerotech has the 97% K1050W in the new 2800 case, flood them with demand for a long-burn in the same case! I nudged Gary with the idea of reintroducing full long-burn 24mm motors over on TRF, but there was little response. Maybe more nudging by actual record holders? 😉

Regarding the long burn K. I have, at various times, begged / groveled / pleaded / whined / and even asked nice 😀 I’ve spoken directly with the manufacturers. Everyone says it is a “nice market”, they’d be a “premium load” (translated: EXPENSIVE). There seems to be interest, but nothing ever emerges.
For my part, I’d love a full, long-burn J, K, and/or an L. The aforementioned Loki K350 comes closest, but it has some challenges as noted above.

ParticipantActually you would be surprised how light the hardware is on the K350. It is only a 54mm load and hardware. Ive flown 98 % of my flights with snapring hardware and in comparison it isn’t as heavy as one thinks. Even though it has a heavier graphite nozzle vs say the AT phenolic… it has an advantage there that I believe offsets the weight disadvantage. The thrust and power is carried for a longer better duration due to no to little erosion factors like the phenolic nozzles from AT have that erode at a very high rate. The closure on an AT vs a loki/AMW/snapring hardware isnt much heavier. Have weighed several in comparison and they are pretty close. Even more so if they have a well in them for a delay or smoke. Just my experience and opinion anyhow but take it for whats its worth..
