Doing a test fit of the cluster assembly, the motor mount
tubes touch. (1-54mm / 2-29mm) One 29mm on either
side of the 54.

You can see the 4.25″ space between the top of the tubes
and the bottom of the centering ring. That area is where
I plan to put two holes through the airframe for venting heat.
Should I protect the 29mm tubes?
I know when the center engine is done thrusting there will be
plenty of heat. The two outer engines will just add to it.
Am I being over cautious?
Will a couple vent holes be enough?
Also…
The instructions suggest putting epoxy on the
forward closure of the 29mm motors.
The 29mm motors will not participate in recovery.
I have seen ‘plugged forward closures’ advertised. I’m
sure this is the application. Right?
Thanks Mike
Mike, first of all, I would NOT worry about the heat. I think the motor tubes will be just fine. The holes won’t vent very much heat out of there, anyway.
I would be concerned about how the 29mm tubes are kept precisely vertical? do you expoxy them to the 54mm tube?
Finally, you said something about about “epoxy” on the fwd closures. I assume you meant grease?
Looks like a fine project!

Thanks for the info.
