You can read the article here: http://www.gizmag.com/darpa-funds-100-year-starship/22662/?utm_source=Gizmag+Subscribers&utm_campaign=4ef17760d8-UA-2235360-4&utm_me
So Voyager is too slow. We are now working on a proposal to start the studies on an advanced Star Ship. It is being called 100YSS.
Don’t forget Project Daedelus
Warren, you will be sorely missed this weekend.
I have not forgotten Project Daedulus. One must remember that Daedulus was worked on from 34 to 39 years ago. One could presume that the technology has advanced in that time. I for one, know of a cousin that works at MSC in Houston developing advanced propulsion systems for just this sort of project. I guess the great thing is that the thoughts are there and seed money is being spent. On the other hand, with a deficit being reported today of 5 trillion dollars in the 2011 budget, we are not doing a very good job of counting pennies.
We are Good to Go with our scheduled and approved launch on Saturday April 5th and Sunday April 6th, from the North Site, subject to change – Mostly cloudy and High Winds predicted. Range and waiver should be active by 9AM on Saturday. The Pawnee National Grassland remains fragile and dry, so extra precautions are in order. Please stay on the authorized roads and please don’t park more than 100’ off the road at the flight line.
