ParticipantJohn, Thanks. If you could part with a few that would be great. I’ve been trying different tubes (1/2 lug tube, first fire tube, cardboard hanger tube) with mixed results. Can’t seen to get a consistent deployment. In one instance 1.5 g of powder and first fire ignitor tube pops the chute and nose out easiliy, on the other hand 2g of powder and 1/2″ lug won’t even deploy the chute. Don’t know if it’s the material the tubes are made but it seems that the lug tube disintegrates whereas the first fire tube and hanger tube don’t. Kinda wierd. I’ve already burned through more than a dozen estes ignitors. All of the neighbors are getting a kick out of the deployment testing though!
Since the 22’nd at Hartsel will be my first attempt at dual deploy, I’d really like to get it right the first time if you know what I mean… Until I can get consistent results, I probably won’t fly DD.
Can we arrange to meet so I can pick up a few? I live in Lafayette.
Thanks…
Ken.

Thats the reason I like re containment, even tho my quest was originally to fly smokeless, containment I believe generates a more consistent ejection charge and avoids the altitude issues. So generally what I do is to melt a small hole in the back of the vial, pass the e-match thru it, use a glue gun to seal it from below. Add BP, then wadding, then hot glue, then the vial cap. I have many I can mail–just need an address– or show up sat at Hartsel. But let me know beforehand, so I will remember to bring a bunch.

ParticipantJohn, if you could bring a few to Harstel, I’d be obliged.
Thanks.

ParticipantJust trying to plan ahead, but how big is the ignitor on an e-match (length and diameter)?

varies a bit depending on brand, but on the chip based ones, the head is about the size of a wooden strike anywhere real match not including the leads,

ParticipantAlso if it helps here is an affordable easy way to do deployment charges and the way I have done them for a long time. In fact im sure many members use this same approach. But if you scroll thru the pages of this thread http://www.rocketryforum.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=27663
I show how to do the holders as well as the ebay and the charges themselfs. (its my L3 build thread.)

ParticipantCon, thanks. Thats exactly what I was looking for. I actually ground tested the PVC last night using estes ignitors and it worked great. What I discovered with the cardboard is that the botton, where the ignitor is blew apart and left the wadding in place – not ideal. I’ll I need to do is find a flat end cap. The one’s at home depot are all rounded. This technique will also work great with denverdocs aerocon vials…
Now I just need a few ematches for this weekend. I ordered some yesterday but doubt I’ll get them by Friday… I don’t think TT from GLR has any left after HellFire.
Great looking rocket by the way. Can’t wait to see it fly.
Thanks.

Xman,
I have some e-matches you can use.
These are very reliable, between chris and I probably ignited 40 w/o failure. As you know a multimeter is a rocketmans best friend. I’ll have mine.
