any idea when the decision will be made? I’m having serious rocket withdrawal issues…
Most of the gains made here have been blown away with
three days of 40 to 50 mile an hour winds.
I stopped by the Atlas site the other day and it is pretty dry. I am sure the North isn’t much different. The tough part is this time of year everything is dead anyways, moisture or no moisture. We had a lot of growth in the spring which means we have lots of dead fuel, just like last year.
Every launch site has it’s downfall. The Salt Flats are really hard, the lakebeds are really dusty, the farm fields usually have scattered trees, powerlines or buildings and bad waivers sometimes. Although we have virtually unlimited recovery, an outstanding waiver, little dust, and reasonably soft ground we have the fire factor to cope with.
Less flying means more building, thats all 😉
I’m going to go camping up at the N site this weekend – will take a hard looksie at what the situation is like. I think Art nailed it, though – we have a lot of fuel out there.
I’ll try to post again Sunday PM. I’ll spend much of the weekend out there..
Taking the telescope John? Might have to find an excuse for the wife and I to drive out to the plains and do a little camping…

Even with a DOB, take a good look at Jupiter, JW. Brightest it and its moons will be in quite a while. 😉
I had planned on going monday to see and take pictures,
but will not.
I will wait to see your post.
Warren, I missed your post on coming out – sorry! That said, we didn’t take a scope as the winds were kicking up… it was quite clear, but quite windy Saturday PM. This morning it was totally overcast up there, but not a drop of rain fell.
Next weekend is the new moon – so we might take the scopes out then? It is starting to get a wee bit nippy after dark up there!!! And yes – Jupiter is sensational right now!
Joe, this was a hard but right decison. This IS why you are el Presidente!
Joe ALWAYS makes the right decision – that’s why we’ve voted for him the last 7 years.
I have to say, our El Presidente is possibly one of the finest human beings I have ever known. He has repeatedly volunteered to help with my remodel, not to mention the many volunteer efforts he puts in on behalf of far more organizations than just NCR. My biggest fear for NCR is that Joe will someday decide he doesn’t want to be president anymore because those are some damn big shoes to fill.
Many thanks Joe, for all you’ve done for the club and all you’ve done to help me out.

We are Good to Go with our scheduled and approved launch on Saturday April 5th and Sunday April 6th, from the North Site, subject to change – Mostly cloudy and High Winds predicted. Range and waiver should be active by 9AM on Saturday. The Pawnee National Grassland remains fragile and dry, so extra precautions are in order. Please stay on the authorized roads and please don’t park more than 100’ off the road at the flight line.
