Wondering how many 3-dogs KestreLs are under construction? I know John Wilke is building one of his own birds, and I am part way into mine. MHM might be interesting with a bunch of K-altitude shots with the new CTI K-300 motors.
Anybody else planning to build one?

ParticipantI have one on order and will definitely build it. May not be ready to fly by Mayhem though.

Participantbut I am shooting for Octoberfest as a launch date. Maybe in the summer (Black Rock??).
I will not be ready for MHM, but I’d love to see you guys fly yours.
Do I hear 20K?

8) Mine is on the table being built. Soon as the glass is none, in a day or two, she will be ready for paint. Should fly in April. Most likley on a 3 gr. 54. We will push it at Mayham. Imax, duel thrust, and lonngburns. I would like to get my first +20 with it.

ParticipantThanks guys, you make me smile! 8)
Some interesting KestreL facts:
– 3 went to Europe
– 1 went to Australia
– 1 went to New ZealandOther destinations included NY, CA, MT, NM… gosh, it was a busy week or two at UPS! There are dozens of them out there now.
I’m building one exactly – and I mean EXACTLY per the instructions for MHM. Later in the year I may try to trick one out (shorten as much as possible, maybe clip the fins, etc.) though from talking to several of you it sounds like you are doing the same.
I really appreciate your support. I’m trying to figure out what to do for my next kit. I was thinking of doing my rocket “Bloodhound” in a kit. We’ll see!

Shall we start a thread as to what the next 3 dogs rocket should be? I have so many ideas!

I pick up my KestreL at april launch from John. I think my first motor will be an L795 Imax. I may need the Dog Tracker in that one. 😉
Hey John , do you have a Rock sim file built for this Rocket….so I dont have to. 😀
If I cant get her built in 6 weeks before mayham I should quit now. 8)March 27, 2010 at 3:21 pm #52322John A. Wilke
ParticipantBelieve it or not, I use Rocksim V4.0 I had later versions, but I went back to the original as I thought it was a lot more accurate than later renditions. I’ll see what I can do there.
Also note that the Von Karmen cone is notorious for two things — performing very well in rockets like this during actual flights, and performing horribly in Rocksim. The VK is the ticket for a rocket like this. You will be underwhelmed by your sims, I promise 😯 Do not believe them…
This is all assuming you get up over mach for any appreciable time, which you will with a decent motor.

Great idea… I’m on it. I’ll do it over in the vendors section as that seems most appropriate?
