SCOTT EVANS
I guess I should jump in here. Andy is not my boss, just a co-worker, he will be painting Odyssey with me.
He didn’t come to Oshkosh, myself and a couple of my other co-workers as well as my boss are here at Oshkosh, we don’t head back until Sunday afternoon. I got to be honest, this is as much fun as a launch, I didn’t think that was even possible. At least not until the other day when I was doing 200 knots, inverted, at 4,000 feet AGL and going past clouds over Lake Winnebago in a Lancair Legacy! Life is good!

I actually read this post a few days ago, but I thought I would come back to it.
In the airplane bussiness, TAKE HEED.
The President of our EAA Chapter, Gene, got himself and his wife killed this weekend in his Lance Air. He was a pretty experianced pilot.
Seems like once a year someone I know, or have met, ceases to be with us.
Last year It was Herb and his partner up in Greeley.
The year before that it was the Girl I met that drove the tow plane out of Boulder. Crashed on Rollins pass.
Before that Jeff and his buddy in a Pitts doing acrobatics north of Longmont.
He use to own the Skydiving school in Longmont (Use to) 🙄Gene I knew the best, so it hit a nerve. 🙁
Just be careful and keep “Life” good.August 5, 2008 at 2:47 am #48827Art Hoag
ParticipantSorry to hear about Gene and his wife. Very sad. It could happen to anyone, even the most experienced pilots.
Thanks for the advice. I will always keep safetey in mind, but when my time is up, my time is up. I guess I would rather die in some sort of freak rocket accident or plane crash then in my car (which is pretty likely so I better up my risk factor on the other two). 😉
PS- I did manage to talk my may into one more right seat ride on Saturday night in Oshkosh. A turbine powered De Havilland Beaver on floats and the runway was Lake Winnebago, IT WAS A BLAST, especially the part where we chased down boats!

ParticipantI’ve been gone for a bit and just got back around to this….
The stunt pilot that died in NW CO – Nebraska who was heading back east for a show owned a survey/engineering company that I use. Stan, was a really cool guy. He got caught in those micro bursts (I think that’s what they call them) and thrown 3200′ down into a corn field. He had just taken off with all tanks full, so he wasn’t playing around….
Hey Art, I got to spend several hours in a D. Beaver on floats up in AK. We did a self guided 14 day float trip a couple years ago and we got to take off from a river. Pretty wild ride…. Did you know those things haven’t been made since the 60s and are worth over 1 million now? I got to fly in a duck as well, it’s the longer nosed version with a different engine.
This was the little lake we landed on.

ParticipantWay to cool! Shoot, what cool airplanes are cost less then a million these days? Oh and, a 152 isn’t a cool airplane no matter how cool it is to fly slower then traffic on I-25.
Got to do some flying in a tail dragger this weekend off of a grass strip. Fact… no one in this world has as much fun as bush pilots and float plane pilots, no one!

Oh, I don’t know. My brother flew F-16s in the A.F., instructed in them, and flew in Iraq. Gotta be some serious adrenaline.
Now he’s in the private sector, flying what he calls “the parts delivery truck”, a nice twin-engine jet transport for Gulfstream.
