I teach elementary school in Coal Creek Canyon at Mt. Phoenix Community School. For the second half of this past year 18 children built two rocket kits and painted them. I found a place in Arvada and had a fantastic launch experience in May. We had 58 launches using five pads. I informally brought a handful of kids to MHM and word has gotten out!
Looking towards next year, EVERYONE in the community wants more of this level of excitement. I am wanting to bring the kids and their families out to Octoberfest. They will have a new rocket built to go along with the “survivors” of the May launch.
I want them to launch their own stuff and see the big rockets so we can keep them amped on something other than candy.
What sort of membership protocol would be appropriate? And is someone interested in coming in September for a show and tell with some L3 rockets? I have just have an L1 and my L2cert project for October.
thanks!
We are Good to Go with our scheduled and approved launch on Saturday April 5th and Sunday April 6th, from the North Site, subject to change – Mostly cloudy and High Winds predicted. Range and waiver should be active by 9AM on Saturday. The Pawnee National Grassland remains fragile and dry, so extra precautions are in order. Please stay on the authorized roads and please don’t park more than 100’ off the road at the flight line.
