I think the gees would be a bigger problem than heat. You get all your speed all at once with this load. The heating of the fins due to airspeed would be very ephemeral… you’d be slowing down at t-plus 2? or so, and the air is much cooler as you ascend.
I think your challenges would be way tougher if you had a long burning motor… your time at velocity would be much longer, plus the motor would probably be a lot hotter. PLUS you would probably be flying a slotted motor, so one part of the motor would be *very* hot.
“Stratagem” has flown J570s several times just fine. Mayhaps I’ll toss this motor in sometime?
Adrian, can you send me a sim file?
John,
When I get home I will, though you would have to upgrade to Rocksim 8 to read it.
Your responses on the heating are encouraging. I looked up cotronics, and they have an epoxy that looks good, with low viscosity, 10kpsi strength and 500F-600F working temperature. I’ll have to contact them for prices.
Adrian, I have used Aeropoxy lately. I’m getting ready to see how good this stuff really is 😯 I’ll know a lot more by early August.
We are Good to Go with our scheduled and approved launch on Saturday April 5th and Sunday April 6th, from the North Site, subject to change – Mostly cloudy and High Winds predicted. Range and waiver should be active by 9AM on Saturday. The Pawnee National Grassland remains fragile and dry, so extra precautions are in order. Please stay on the authorized roads and please don’t park more than 100’ off the road at the flight line.
