Me personally I don’t care. I just want to fly. It would be nice to have all the info but I don’t need it.
As far as “who knows” who is on the forum, who cares. Trust me Big brother Knows already. Do you think you can really truly know who is on the other end, NOT! My point is if all it takes is someone driving by one of our launches and sees a really big rocket and thinks HMMM that could fly over a city with a payload and reports it.
This happened to Scott in Iowa. He launched a big sugar motor rocket to 30,000 (yes he had a proper waiver). There are lots of people on his forum. He started a thread on his rocket including a launch date. He launches the rocket and two days later the ATF showed up as his door. Was it someone from the forum, no it was someone in a town 5 miles away that just happened to see it and called the police. Next thing you know sugar motor shows up on the ATF federal explosives list as an addendum.
I am not saying we need to go advertising ex launches in the newspaper but I am also not going to tread lightly in forums or hide under the covers for doing something I like to do because “someone” might be listening in.
Ok I just took a step off my soap box.
When rocketry is outlawed, only outlaws will fly rockets. Sorry, back to topic. Launch logs have always been a contentious item. Not sure when or why NCR started posting them but it was a kool idea then and still now to help keep track of who and what folks were/are flying and really, the information age has so much out there that if you don’t want your flights posted, indicate as such on the flight cards, but understand that flight cards are required by NCR for record keeping in compliance with NAR and TRA rules. I could find the exact text if necessary.
Thanks Joe, couldn’t have said it better.
We are Good to Go with our scheduled and approved launch on Saturday April 5th and Sunday April 6th, from the North Site, subject to change – Mostly cloudy and High Winds predicted. Range and waiver should be active by 9AM on Saturday. The Pawnee National Grassland remains fragile and dry, so extra precautions are in order. Please stay on the authorized roads and please don’t park more than 100’ off the road at the flight line.
