The weather near the ground looks marginal, with cool temperatures, 50% cloud cover, and winds around 13-15 mph. But the upper level winds are good, with very low wind speeds:
It is such a crapshoot…. no better example than today. Yesterday’s forecast for today was utterly wretched. While it was a mess this morning, I can tell you that right here, right now, conditions are PERFECT. Dead calm, mostly clear, 52 degrees.
As little as two hours ago the forecast for today was overcast and highs nowhere near what it is right now.
I stopped prepping last night as I figured there’d be no way we could fly. Now I wish I had continued. I’ll pick it up again tonight, and hope for the best on Saturday…….
I’m going to be prepping today and tomorrow, also. Not sure how far I’ll get, but I have a plan now for connecting a Featherweight av-bay to a dual-deploy chute holder that I can use for all of my 38mm flights if I can make it durable enough.
I’m in Grand Junction right now and I can tell you that the weather headed your way is wretched. Not quite cold enough for snow to stick to the highway, but definitely heavy, wet and shitty. Hope you guys luck out. I’ll be thinking of you, but looks like I won’t make this weekends’ launch.
For what it’s worth, the updated forecast this morning calls for moderate Westerly winds of 7 mph until noon. Fingers crossed.
We are Good to Go with our scheduled and approved launch on Saturday April 5th and Sunday April 6th, from the North Site, subject to change – Mostly cloudy and High Winds predicted. Range and waiver should be active by 9AM on Saturday. The Pawnee National Grassland remains fragile and dry, so extra precautions are in order. Please stay on the authorized roads and please don’t park more than 100’ off the road at the flight line.
