that means they have started the process, now you wait for a phone call or your permit in the mail.

MikeSModeratorCRUD…..The other day I got a call from what I thought was a
telemarketer. She said She had a couple questions. I said I do
not do anything like that over the phone. She said OK and hung
up.I did not hear Who She worked for.
Out of reflex I just reacted to the call. I did not have my hearing
aids in so I only heard part of what She said..I HOPE IT WAS NOT……..
OH MY GOD………………..
The Wife. Could not believe I did that. She asked. Was that
the ATF? My air left me.She will screen all the calls till this is over.
I hope it was a telemarketer.
She asked for Mike not Michael. All my paper work was
filled out as Michael…..Hope.
I’m sure this would only slow the process down not kill it.
Man-O-Man-O-Man 🙄

ParticipantNo worries. The ATF will always identify themselves. They will call to set up an interview. When you meet with one of the agents, you’ll go through some particulars about the regs and what you need to do to account for all of your motors. They will have you go through a checklist and sign and date it. It will take about 1 hour or less. It’s no big deal. A few weeks later you should have your permit.

Jeffrey Joe HintonModeratorIt probably was a telemarketer or solicitor of some type. Not to worry. If really concerned, call your local ATF office and ask if they’ve been trying to get in touch for your interview to complete your application process. If they were and they/you hung up on each other, they’ll try again. If it wasn’t them in that instance, then you’ll be expediting the process. Every agent I have had any dealing with has been a very pleasent experience and they have all been above and beyond civil and decent. We all put our shoes on one at a time unless you are very talented in a weird sort of way. You’ll always catch more flies with honey than vinegar. Telemarketers are a nuisance and deserve the short and simple brush off – click. Just remember – It’s okay to be rude as long as you’re nice about it.

My favorite response is from Seinfeld when he received a telemarketer call, and he said, “Give me your home number and I’ll call you later about this.” Or something like that. Ken said he had a really good experience with the BATFE. I’m next, guys.

ParticipantI had a very good experience with the BATFE. After reading all sorts of posts about how painful and long the process was I found it to be just the opposite. It took about 60 days total.

Ken, I’ll be seeking your help in filling out the paperwork, as soon as I find someone who will be my storage. I know Tim Thomas or Jim Amos are options, but I’m looking for someone closer. All I need is a new passport photo. My passport is still active, but I’m wearing glasses, and I don’t think that’s allowed now. Walgreens, here I come! You know, guys, it’s not the agents we have a problem with; they have a job to do, and from what I’ve heard, the current agents are just as Joe said, people just like us, some of them EXCELLENT rocket builders and flyers.

ParticipantAs far as I’m concerned, the agents are great. The gal that came to my house to interview me was very nice and professional. Very pleasant to work with. She was however very serious with respect to the details and requirements for record keeping. And rightfully so.
Bruce, the only thing that delayed my permit was that I specified “motors to be purchased and consumed on-site” for the contigency storage section of the permit. The ATF agent didn’t really like that and suggested I find an alternative, even though I wouldn’t actually be using the alternative. I think that they just want to know there is someone who can store propellant in case it can’t be consumed on-site. And even then, all I needed to do was fax her the form specifying the alternative storage.
The agents are people like us. Treat them professionally and with respect and I think you will get the same in return.
And don’t forget, SMILE for that passport photo![/quote]

I just got my permit in the mail with no call, visit or anything. It was 3 yrs later that I had a visit and it has been over 2 1/2 more years and I have not heard a word. I am going to start my paperwork for my renewal in a couple of months. I hope it stays the same as it all ways been, no hassles.
