Joe thanks for getting the windows coordinated. I will be there early Saturday to set up a tower for our launch – and if anyone else is in need of a tower you are welcome to borrow ours, please just ask as it has some nuances to the set-up – it can accommodate up to a 5″ diameter rocket. Saturday looks to be the best for high altitude shots with the jet stream – Saturday it will be over western colorado, headed nne. Here’s a good link:

I talked to the folks out at the northt site at noon, today, 05/25/12. It is windy. They do not think the rain is going to come in, currently. They are flying some, but no high power. Advice is to check weather before heading to the site.

Camped on the grasslands tonight. No wind and no clouds. A beautiful night . Five big birds planning on going as early as possible. Saturn V, Proton M, and “O” Nike Smoke. Come early if you are going to see them fly.

We left early this morning (Sunday). My co-pilot Whitney wasn’t up for sitting around watching the wind blow with my fingers crossed. Did any of the big projects fly?

The O powered Nike Smoke was scrubbed due to high winds early in the day. The Proton M was finally assembled on the pad, but not until 4:30 or so and the winds were just too much. There were calm periods during the course of the day, but flight ops stopped several times due to winds and a front that passed through (no rain of course).

Things are VERY dry. Hopefully the Proton and the Nike will fly today, unfortunately I won’t be there to see them.

Monday, May 28. I just pulled into the house. Nike did not fly. Saturn was scrubbed yesterday and went home. We launched the Proton M this morning. We cannot say it was a success, but I would not call it a total failure. We learned a lot and Adrian’s electronics with the lock outs worked great, preventing things from being much worse. After leaving the pad, the rocket veered over. The tiltometer prevented the second stage and third stages from firing, and the explosive bolts for stage separation worked, the ravens and other altimeters worked and the stages came down separately and under chute, except for an issue on the second stage. It can be flown again, with some major repairs, and I hope it does. I for one want to see if our changes and repairs will prevent a repeat and I want to see this very complicated bird have a successful flight. It was a great day for flying, the skies were clear, the clouds were minimal, and the wind abated to make it a great day to fly rockets.
