BEAR
FWIW, I have about 24″ of snow in my yard, up here in Wellington. Cheyenne has more, I’ve been told. I have been looking at Grover’s weather also. I would guess that the north launch site is somewhere in between for amount of snowfall. If the wind has not been too bad, there could be a foot of snow on the ground. Moisture content, unknown. I would think and hope this will be very good for the May launch and maybe the June launch, too.

ModeratorJust for the record. I may drive to the North Site this weekend just for a peek.
Also: Because of someone leaving at My work. I will be going to the
weekend shift for a few months till the new Guy gets trained. I had
vacation for the May launch so there is no problem there. This was no surprise, it had been in the works for months.
Probably will last three to four months.
A lot of rockets will be built during this time.
See ya

ParticipantI hope the weather will be good. I’d like to know what cool stuff will be going up this year? It’s been too long since I’ve been to a launch, so I’m getting into finish-build/repair mode.
1st on the list to get finished is minor repairs on my son’s LOC IV which was given to him by Bruce Schaefer, who passed recently. I’d like to honor his generosity with a flight. My 29mm motor stash is mostly G80s. Bruce deserves better. If anyone could tell me his preference in propellant, or better yet, donate a motor for the flight, more awesomeness! I have all Aerotech 29mm cases and CTI (I think 3G). Most likely motor eject, single deploy, but if I get time, I’ll throw in an alt for electronic.
Have a couple other in-the-build 29mm projects including a 3″ Alpha clone and a BT70 scratch missile my son designed. Both need recovery and finishing.
Hope to see you all there!

ModeratorI’d be happy to donate a motor to the honor flight – I’ll bring an assortment to chose from.

ParticipantAnyone close to the site have an update on conditions? We’re going on 3 weeks now that the ground has been too wet down here for concrete or asphalt, so I’m still expecting excellent conditions up there from a fire risk standpoint. I’m actually more worried about mud at this point.

I live in Wellington. 35 miles from north site by car. Less by crow. We received two inches of snow last night. Weather history for Grover shows they have had more than an inch of moisture in the last two weeks.
At MHM, back in 2011(?) when the cold front came through and on the last day, that Monday, we had ground fog till late morning. A RV tried to get out and managed to get turned sideways blocking the road in/out and you had to work hard to go around because the mud was so slippery. People were worried that they could not get out because of the mud and really tore up the road trying to leave in a quasi-panic.
By one o’clock after giving the road a couple of hours to dry out, everything was fine and the mud was gone. I would expect the same for mini-MHM. I think to get to a serious mud condition you would have to have standing water, which should only be in the washes and the ponds that are normally dry. Mudded out from flying I think will be very unlikely.April 23, 2013 at 11:13 pm #56495new2hpr

Thanks Joe. Look forward to seeing everyone after such a long break from launches!

ParticipantI think I may camp out that night. It’s been too long since I slept in a tent on the prairie.
I’ll also be ready for helping with set up Friday AM.

ModeratorI won’t be flying and HPR at Mini-Mayhem as I’ve just moved and can’t quite find everything, but will be flying some LPR with my son. Is there a volunteer schedule because I’d love to sign up for LCO/RSO/Range Director.
Also, I’ll be available with tons of parts, tools, parachutes in case anyone needs anything. I’ll also have my Garmin Astro to borrow if anyone would like.
Is anyone going to fly a hybrid? If so I *NEED* to know so I can get the GSE there.

Is there any chance for a early am flight just before sunrise on either Sat or Sun? I am working with a National Geographic fellow who has a 360 degree HD video system we will be flying over the weekend and thought a great video would be just before sunrise, as the rocket increases altitude the sun would break over the horizon for a great video shot. Sunrise today was at 0608 so a minute or two before sunrise would be perfect. Flight is going to be under 10,000 feet but we would obviously need the waiver for this. Would Sat or Sun be a possibility for an early waiver opening?
Thanks, Sean
