Hey T, those looked pretty nice! Flying them at BR next year? I think I’ll be out again (after missing last year)……. Did you cast the grain with an offset core or did you drill it out?

John, Those tests were in the AT54/1706 case. The core is a bit big for that case, but just right for the AT K250 case. The cores are done with a mandrel placed in end caps. One end of the mandreel is threaded. A nut is placed on the mandrel and then tightened down. Once it starts to come out is pretty easy to pull it the rest of the way. Below is a photo of some of the tricks to help make them work.

Tony, looks great! Very impressive burn time in 54mm. I noticed on the audio that the recipe is “Swamp Gas 2.0”. Are you able to mention what alterations you made and why?

John, The second burn on that video was SG 2.0 I’m trying to get a bit more Isp out of it, and still keep as many of the other good traits of SG as I can. I’m still playing around with the2.0 formula. I’ll post it once I (if), I get it dialed in.

PS: 2.0 did have some very cool mach diamonds that did not show up in the video.

Tony, so you’re working on that love/hate relationship….good job. I like to see commitment and dedication from guys facing up to difficult situations instead of ignoring them and hoping they go away. 😉

One question for you. On the first burn, do you have any idea what caused the exhaust to suddenly start jumping from side to side toward the end of the thrust phase?

Really cool video. I’m hoping to get some good ones when Jeremiah and I start testing this spring. How far back did you have the camera and were there and shutter settings in particular you used?

Greg, I’m not sure why it did that. There was a good slag pile where the core was. It may havee had something to do with it. I just run the video camera on the automatic mode..and it;s about 75′ away and zoomed to catch as much as the flame as I want.

I guess slag buildup is just one of the associated problems w/ something meant to be facing the other direction. 🙂
