Thanks. I have not yet tried the rocksim free download, do lots of you guys use it? would you recomend it?
Maybe i try both, stremer for visablity and a smalll chute. To much weight?what do you guys think, the streamer is like 54″ long. I did order one of there recomended motors, F10-6T, sayes it has a 7.2 sec burn, WOW.
Speaking of motors, figured i should by a RMS. I would like to stick with 29mm motors size, G’s and smaller. SO is the Areo tech RMS 29/40/120 would do E16 through G64, is this good idea? what do you guys use/who’s? do we have people that sell motors? or where do you buy, local, online? I bought a few other Single use motors, hopeing for more than one blast. Thanks for the break on the prairie

ParticipantHi David,
Rocksim is highly recommended. I don’t build much without it. If you only build kits and only by the instructions, then you can probably get by without it.
The Aspire is pretty cool, i had one I flew several times, always about a mile high or so. I never saw it land, but I found it every time, thanks to the streamer. Too much dog barf one flight and it came in hot and broke in half. Maybe I’ll fix it one day.
You should consider that you can get a full set of CTI 29mm hardware for $160 – 1g through 6g with 4 or 5 different loads for each case. That will take you up through an I204 in 29mm. I don’t know what thyat buys you in RMS, but it can’t be more than 1 or 2 cases and a set of closures.

Warren B. MusselmanModeratorYeah… the CTI 29mm case set is a great deal and you can fly more motors than in any other brand. The other really nice thing about Cesaroni motors is that they basically light first time everytime if you get the igniter up to the top of the motor. That Pyrodex pellet is great.

KeymasterI fly the RMS 29-40/120 motors quite a bit and love them. I really like the f52 loads. Price is very cheap for reloads. Tim carries most reloads at the launches for these.
Only thing I recommend if you buy this case is buy the wrench for the rear closure. I dont have one and use a thick glove, but what a hassle.

RockSim? Yep. And, Tim Thomas, from Giant Leap, is our main, onsite high power motor dealer. But he also has the 29mm casings and reloads. In fact, at MHM, he was the only one in the country who had them. Those who bought them were the first to try ’em. They really are impressive! E-mail him at tim4glr@aol.com, and he’ll set you up, David.

For low cost flying, it is hard to beat the AT 29mm reloads. I also use the 24mm ones a lot. For the Aspire and other minimum diameter rockets you need to be concerned with motor retention. You will have to have a very snug fit for the motor to prevent it from kicking out on ejection. I am always surprised how much kick force ejection charges have. I lost a motor casing last month even with a motor clip, but luckily someone found it in the grass, but the parachute did not deploy and the rocket had minor damage (also sending me back to A on the alphabet contest).
Next time at the launch check out the motor retention people use- everything from tape around the motor case, to tape on the end, to fancy machined retainers.

So i check out the CTI sight, and it sounds like you get alot, but they are still $20 to $22 a shot. The best deal i found for the Aero Tech rms is $53 for the casing, and the reloads are $9 with another $3 for the ejection charge, although i only find a few reloads avaiable, thats with HObby Line.
Ok, so i’ve read different propellant types offer more thrust under the same totall impulse, so the questions is, do different motor companys, CTI and AT differ, looking for most bang for buck or more shots maybe. Again thanks for the help.Newbie

Just read another post about Tim. Hey Tim, what companys do you carry? CTI any others? thanks for the homework help.
$160 seems like alot. I’ve only built 4 rockets, flown 2 lots, an I204 that seems like WOWZER at this point. Especally hearing Adrain did a shot to 17,000′ on a G to G, not sure i would need an I. Maybe someone that been threw this can help. Thanks Again

DavidI like that rumor, but it doesn’t sound like any flight I’ve done yet. There was a G to E that I tried to fly last year but I didn’t have the right ignitor to fire the sustainer. So my 2-stage flights have been on the drawing board, only. Probably you’re thinking of Sean’s cool G-to-G flight that went over 9k on Saturday.
My advice would be to keep flying the small motors as long you’re having fun with them. Level 2 and 3 motors are a lot more expensive and stressful, so there’s no need to rush to get there. As far as I know, the HPR reloads are pretty much all about $20 a shot, and up. The hobbyline 24mm reloads are sold in 3-packs pretty inexpensively and go up to F. There are a lot of 29mm motors out now. The club has motor cases you can borrow, but the smallest I saw in the box was a 38-240. If you ask around, you can borrow a case. Tim has lent me quite a few cases.

ParticipantI’ve got a bunch of the Aerotech 29mm hobbyline cases. I’ll sell you a good condition used one for $40. PM me for questions.
