Members and Friends, August 24th, 2015
NCR was officially advised this afternoon that fire conditions are too dangerous for our planned September launch at the North Site on the Pawnee National Grassland, and possibly for the remainder of the year. Given all the circumstances, this is a prudent and reasonable determination. Carefully consider the current conditions of the vegetation on the prairie, the forecast for more hot and dry windy days and the low humidity factor. Red Flag Watches and Warnings have already developed. Furthermore, some local Wildland Fire resources have already been dispatched to assist with the catastrophic fires in California, Oregon, Washington and Idaho. NO GO for September 5th/6th. In whatever manner you spend the Labor Day weekend, please do so responsibly.
Consider attending Airfest. AIRFest 21, the mid-west's premiere regional launch sponsored by KLOUDBusters, is set for September 4‑7, 2015 at the renowned Argonia, Kansas Rocket Pasture. http://www.kloudbusters.org
AIRFest 21 takes place over Labor Day weekend. Late summer is “prime-time” for rocketry in Kansas; we experience generally pleasant temperatures and pristine field conditions after the wheat harvest and the fields are plowed in preparation for next year's crops. The fact is, this time of year, there simply are not very many places for rockets to hide. Those who have joined us for AIRFest or LDRS in the past know that Argonia is the place to be for the final summer blast.
Closer to home, Launch opportunities are still on schedule with SCORE, at the Hudson Ranch on Saturday, September 5th and CRASH, at Bear Creek Lake Park on Sunday, September 6th.
Or make plans now to attend the Tripoli Las Vegas Oktoberfest, October 16th thru 18th, on the Jean Dry Lake Bed. http://www.tripolivegas.com/
Too wet for Mayhem, to dry of O'Fest. Any chance we can shift some higher waivers to April/November?
Edward
We are Good to Go with our scheduled and approved launch on Saturday April 5th and Sunday April 6th, from the North Site, subject to change – Mostly cloudy and High Winds predicted. Range and waiver should be active by 9AM on Saturday. The Pawnee National Grassland remains fragile and dry, so extra precautions are in order. Please stay on the authorized roads and please don’t park more than 100’ off the road at the flight line.
