Odyssey to fly at MHM - Northern Colorado Rocketry

Well Odyssey is ready to fly and all that is left is the painting. It is expected to fly Sunday morning around 10:00 on an O7634RR. Expected altitude is 22,700 feet and nearly 1000 mph maximum speed. Not bad for a rocket that weighs 212 pound at takeoff. Of course BDCR will return as well on Friday on a AT M1600R.

Some have expressed an interest in the parachute release mechanism. It tested under a 200 pound load and there is a video of it at

There are hundreds of photographs on the web site if you’re interested. There and several unique designs, techniques, and ideas incorporated into this project.

Yes the entire rocket was designed just using Visio, a cheesey MS product. But for some aspects, quite necessary like the electronics bay. Trying to lay out complex designs is not really practical without some for of CAD drawing tool.

Art and Doug,

Any guesses on when you’ll be flying Sunday? I just want to make sure I get up there in time, as I won’t be able to come up for the whole event this year. Too busy and didn’t get any rockets finished or repaired in time.

Well crud. I’ll have to catch the video and pictures on this one. This is family camping weekend around our place.

That is one amazing build guys!!!!

So you actually used Visio for designs, that’s wild. I’ve been using it for years too. I’d say you have a better handle on it than me though.
