Parachute ?

I need help on deciding what size chute to use on my new rocket. It’s a Polecat 4″ MIM-23B Army Hawk. It should weigh in around 6.5 to 7.0 lbs. That’s with it trimmed for flight and some weight for spent motor a chute. It’s motor ejection and I’ll be using it for my level two cert. flight at MHM.

Im gong to throw this out , but there there are also
calculation on this issue. It also depends if your doing duel deploy or motor ejection. For 7 pounds i would say a 6′ parachute is good. Saying this becasue my Denali weighed 25 pounds and i put a 15′ main and a 3′ drouge ( Thnak you John Wilke ) . IF you go on google try a ” Decente rate calculator or similar to that.

For dual deploy, I would go with a Rocket Rage RRQS15 as a main. It’s rated for 15lbs, so it’ll come in soft, but that’s my preference for dual. For single, a 54″-72″ parachute would be great (it’ll float quite a bit on a 72″ though). I’ve had good luck with PML, and spherachutes look really nice (I haven’t flown my 72″ spherachute yet, but it looks amazing). Skyangles are nice too – you would want about a 44″ or a 52″ to get the right descent rate because of their design. They take more space to pack though.
