Could you use the Defy Gravity tether to release the chute?
Perhaps, IF you can find one and IF your rocket is small enough. Their web store is no longer running so I think they are out of business. I have looked at the Tether and although they claim a 500 pound rating, I would never trust that much weight on it. The biggest issue I have with it is that you have to tape it together to keep it together. Its a nice little design but I’m working on something more robust like for Odyssey.

Absolutely kool tinkering but what triggers the device? If the bird is on the ground and out of sight – what senses/determines touchdown? Or is it shock activated? Wait a second Doug, where did your last post go? The one with the drawings?

I deleted it due to a possible error. Here is the link.

The activation method has been, and will be discussed and ultimately left up to the flier. For BDCR it will be the G-Wiz HCX that determines landing by a zero slope for baro for five seconds. Of course I built in a safety that prevents triggering unless the rocket is less that 300 feet on descent. The circuit will be discussed on the Electronics page when it is finished.

We are Good to Go with our scheduled and approved launch on Saturday April 5th and Sunday April 6th, from the North Site, subject to change – Mostly cloudy and High Winds predicted. Range and waiver should be active by 9AM on Saturday. The Pawnee National Grassland remains fragile and dry, so extra precautions are in order. Please stay on the authorized roads and please don’t park more than 100’ off the road at the flight line.
