I’ve been building medium power rockets for a while now (F/G power) and decided it was time to take the next step.
coming along OK. still needs a lot of finishing work. should make for a pretty lawn dart when it’s done!
Christmas a bit late
PML makes some nice kits
Preliminary assembly (quick switch, piston ejection, etc)
Body tube CF reinforced phenolic
NC/payload reinforced, fin fillets/fins reinforced

here are some of the other ones I’ve put together. all are scratch built with
the exception of the Aura (checker fade paintjob)

Very nice work. That thing should be bulletproof :D. How much does it weigh?

ModeratorThose are some nice rockets! Very nice work getting the pics posted in the forum too. Well done.

not sure on weight yet, as soon as it’s done I’ll take it to the post office and get an accurate figure. PML says something like 52oz, so we’ll see how my pig compares; I used some pretty thick CF, and I know it soaked up quite a bit of resin (will definately use epoxy next time).
anybody know how much a J350 reload and casing weigh? I will need to add nose weight to adjust CG.
cheers, will have more photos as it progresses.

ModeratorIf you’ve got Rocksim, the motor weight will come out in the sim. Both propellant and casing.

(will definately use epoxy next time).
Did you not use epoxy?
As for motor weight, a J350 is a bit over a pound IIRC. If you’re using rocksim though, it will take care of it. I doubt if you’ll need noseweight with the 6 fins, but it’s hard to say. Interesting how you put CF over the nose cone too – that’s one cone that won’t be coming off 😆
What weight of carbon is that?

I used polyester resin, had a bunch laying around the shop. It smells 10 times worse than an epoxy. The CF cloth I used was a 6 oz twill (I think), again it was some material we had laying around our shop.
The nose cone is definately not coming off; which may be a mistake in hindsight if I need to add any more nose weight, but not totally impossible.
It’s been progressing well. I will have it all done by Mile High Mayhem.

I actually don’t have rocketsim, I had a trial version, but it expired.
Anybody in/around Denver got a copy I could borrow?

ParticipantPolyeter resin can work ok,, But it does not have the great bonding strength of epoxy. Ive done lots of Fg work for years (lots of it on cars and boats as well as rockets) and used the PR and not only does it smell worse and not have the strength (its also a bit more brittle when cured) as epoxy does, But the alphatics and such it puts off are very toxic and can create allergies to it easier then epoxys can.
