that is all correct; epoxy is definately better than polyester for CFRP. was one of those situations where it was available and free…hard to pass up 😀
got lots of sanding done, looking good now, will have photos later!

updated photos, almost ready for paint! (white paint is to identify high/low spots)

Looks VERY nice, and even though you did use polyester resin (never used the stuff honestly, so I can’t say much about it), it should be more than strong enough for the I600 for L1 and the K1445 for L2, right 😉 😆
On a slightly more serious note, it looks great, and it should fly really well on a decent I or J motor for the cert flights. Good luck.

it will definately be good for L1 and L2.
I learned a lot and the next one will be better, but that will be a while from now…don’t need to be thinking about another one just yet; need to FINISH this one!
As for motor recommendations; I’ve got the PML datasheet, and found a copy of RocketSim to use…does anybody have any suggestions of where to start? I’m debating Cesaroni or Aerotech RMS…Cesaroni’s are just so nice and easy while the Aerotech and all the motor casing clones that use Aerotech reloads are super common but a little more finicky loading the grains.

Well, the Loki I405 is great in a Miranda, as is the I110 (just ask nate). Slightly tamer are the Aerotech I161 or the I218. For J motors, the J90 is my preference, but any small to mid J other than the J1299 should be sane and doable for a L2 in that rocket.

that’s good to know about the J/I impulse motors. any H recommendations?
as for progress…did a very thin skim coat of epoxy, still need to smooth and finish it all up. Next time I will definately use the vacuum bag system we use at work instead of compression wrapping; sanding sucks. I’m pretty satisfied with the functionality of this rocket, but some of the imperfections in the carbon fiber irk me. Maybe I’m being overly critical of my workmanship, but as with everything, you learn from mistakes and for the next rocket I put together there are many things I will do differently to make assembly more straight forward with an emphasis on a much higher quality finished result

It looks good to me 😎
What’s the weight?

I’ll weigh it tomorrow sometime; will do it with everything minus motor/case.

OK – as soon as I know the weight, I can recommend some good H motors to try 😀
