What is the longest motor in 54 that can take?
Edward
per PML, 13.75in is the longest casing that will fit in the standard kwik switch motor mount system. they do have an extended KS MMS which is 17(?) inches long IIRC
well, I’ve decided to paint the whole thing. no carbon fiber will be visible. The surface finish just wasn’t as smooth as I wanted. I’ll have to do better next time.
SO, the photos above show about 85% of the finish work being done; still have some ripples to take care of, then will shoot the paint. once it’s all dry, I’ll have to weigh it again to see how much weight a couple layers of paint add.
will start painting tomorrow; all Omni AU (PPG) stuff. automotive finish. kind of pricey for all the stuff (primer/catalyst, paint/reducer, clear/hardener) but should be able to do multiple rockets with it and the results should be superior to rattle can. I have some previous paint experience as well as access to a compressor/paint gun, etc. at work. will try and post photos of the progress ASAP!
OK…paint gun difficulties. not much progress as planned. the regulator on our compressor wouldn’t adjust to the 40 psi or so required to paint (HPLV) and was stuck at around 100 PSI. so instead of spraying a fine mist of paint it would pressure wash a stream of primer particles and within a fraction of a second go from no paint to too much and a run.
should be able to get it fixed shortly 🙁
It might not be done for MHM…crap-O-la. I probably won’t be done either…haven’t even gotten my NAR paperwork submitted; dangit!
I finally got the painting issues taken care of and started painting yesterday. work has been kicking my arse lately!
finally got the images up. Omni AU primer is down, Omni color coats and graphics to be done this week if all goes well.
got my NAR app in as well…paid in full. hopefully it arrives in time; I’m such a horrible procrastinator
and…I almost forgot to put on the launch lugs…just put those on now. I purposely left them off until the last minute; HONEST! I’m running rail lugs as well as the brass tube.
I hope you used rail guides instead of launch lugs of some size over 1/4″. While we will put up 1 each of 3/8″ and 1/2″ rods, don’t count on good on them as rails are by far becoming the preferred method for anything over a pound or two.
