ParticipantAfter spending a couple hours of prep time for what ended up being a relatively boring flight with minor landing damage, I find myself thinking of new things…
Original Excess in Moderation:
-6 24mm airstarts, requiring long prep time, begging and borrowing many cases, begging and borrowing assorted pyro materials to light the tiny things, etc.
-minor landing damage of cracked fillets where they meet the cardboard (LOC) tubing.I could just retire it and put it up on the wall. (Nah)
Since I need to do a tip-to-tip glassing to reinforce the fincan, I thought… Hmmm Cessaronis light really easily, prep fast. Some surgery of the fincan to remove the 24mm tubes and add 3 short 38mm mounts (albeit bulging out of the 4″ airframe) might be fun.
Anyone got three 1G or 2G Pro38 cases? How about a couple feet of 38mm tubing? I have a 3G, but I don’t have room to put that long of mounts inbetween the fins. This would move the airstart to 3 G or H Smokey Sam motors.
Comments or gifts of Pro38 cases welcome! 😉

Ken,
I’ve got two short pieces of 38mm MMT you can have. One is 4 1/2″ and the other is 4 7/16″ long. I also have a piece 12″ long that I paid $4.00 for that you can have. Send me a message offline if you want any of those.

Jeffrey Joe HintonModeratorKen, I’ve got three of the 1 grainers and two of the two that I’d be happy to loan but won’t gift. Don’t have any motor tube that I know of but I did use insulation foam (ordinary plumbing wrap stuff for water heaters and the like) in my CROC’s rocket that is a nice fit for the 38’s if you can figure out a better way to externally retain the cases. The foam stuff gets a little brittle after the epoxy sets up in it.

ParticipantJoe, is it 2 or 3 that you have? Loaning would be great, as I don’t (or at least I didn’t think I would) have much use for a 38mm G in normal usage.
I’ll get with you if I need a test fit, and definitely when I want to fly again!
Guess it’s time to start sanding off Art’s paint off the other end this time. Bah!

Jeffrey Joe HintonModerator3 One’s, 2 two’s, 2 three’s. And Tim Thomas probably has a few loaners too.

ParticipantI finally got started with the retrofit of the 38’s. Making it so the 2-grains will fit.

ParticipantUpdate time.
I finally got the glassing done. 6oz strips in the fillets, 6oz tip-to-tip, and 1.5oz sanding veil. This was my first tip-to-tip job, and twas not easy. Looks a little ugly, but should clean up nicely with sanding and a bit of fill. Definitely sturdier than before!

Take away the fins, And that reminds me of a 38 MM Gatling gun. 😯
I can imagine the Governor of California, carrying that trough the jungle right now, shooting aliens. 😉August 27, 2008 at 2:05 am #47934
Doug GerrardParticipantHere is a new project I’m working on, a 54 mm surrounded by eight 38 mm motors in a 6 inch body tube.
